Adani Energy Solutions to Construct a 7 GW Renewable Energy Evacuation Transmission Network

AESL, a part of the Adani portfolio, is a versatile entity engaged in various aspects of the energy sector, including power transmission, distribution, smart metering, and cooling solutions.

Editor’s Synopsis

• A project valued at Rs 3,000 crore covering over 300 km will facilitate the evacuation of 7 GW of energy from Khavda RE park to the national grid.

• AESL will be responsible for building, owning, operating, and maintaining the transmission project for 35 years.

• With this addition, AESL’s portfolio now includes 20,518 ckm of transmission lines and a transformation capacity of 53,161 MVA.

Adani Energy Solutions Limited (AESL), a key player in the diversified Adani group and India’s largest private transmission and distribution company, has been granted the Letter of Intent (LoI) for the acquisition of Halvad Transmission Ltd. from PFC Consulting Limited (PFCCL).

Halvad Transmission Ltd., established as a special purpose vehicle (SPV) by PFCCL to evacuate 7 GW of renewable energy (RE) from the Khavda RE park, was acquired by AESL through a tariff-based competitive bidding (TBCB) process. The company plans to commission the project in 24 months on a BOOM (Build, Own Operate, and Maintain) basis.

The Khavda RE park, set to become the world’s largest RE park with a generation capacity of 30,000 MW of green energy, is located in Khavda, Gujarat. The Halvad transmission line, an integral part of the national grid, will facilitate the evacuation of 7 GW of RE by connecting Khavda to Halvad in Gujarat.

AESL is set to invest approximately Rs 3,000 crore in the project, covering the construction, ownership, operation, and maintenance of the 301 km (656 ckm) transmission line for a period of 35 years. The project encompasses the establishment of a 765 kV Halvad switching station, including 2×330 MVAr bus reactors and a line-in line-out of Lakadia–Ahmedabad 765 kV D/c line at Halvad.

Anil Sardana, Managing Director of Adani Energy Solutions Ltd., emphasized the company’s commitment to collaborating with the government and renewable energy developers to streamline the efficient evacuation of renewable energy from generating regions. The successful bid for the 7 GW project aligns with AESL’s dedication to providing additional renewable energy to consumers, leveraging the latest technology to commission the project with minimal environmental impact.

With the acquisition of this project, AESL strengthens its market-leading position, expanding its network (installed and under-commissioning) to 20,518 ckm and 53,161 MVA of transformation capacity.
