Before the commencement of the G20 Summit in Delhi, a significant Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed on Thursday between the world’s largest company, Airbus, and the Ministry of Railways’ Gati Shakti University (GSU). Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Airbus India’s President and MD Rémi Maillard, and GSU’s Vice-Chancellor Manoj Choudhary were among those present on this occasion.
In response to questions from India News & NewsX, Rail Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw emphasized that in the context of the G20, India is viewed as a reliable partner worldwide. It is recognized not only as a supply chain but also as a valuable chain partner in various industries such as aviation, transportation, semiconductor electronics, and pharmaceuticals. He highlighted that India possesses talent and sound policies, with the Prime Minister implementing significant reforms.
In the larger context, this is a substantial development, sending a message to industries and nations alike that India now has an institutional framework and an opportunity to develop the transportation sector. The MOU sets a precedent for collaboration between Airbus and GSU, and this template could potentially pave the way for other industries and nations to progress.
This agreement is expected to create job opportunities for approximately 15,000 GSU students who will work with the Airbus company.
Meanwhile, Rémi Maillard, President and MD of Airbus India, expressed his satisfaction and commended the MOU.
Additionally, Rémi Maillard announced that Airbus has signed a contract with the Indian Air Force to deliver 56 C-295 aircraft, of which 40 will be completely manufactured, assembled, and maintained in India, with the final assembly taking place in Baddi, Gujarat. The remaining 16 C-295 aircraft will be imported from Spain, and the delivery ceremony for these aircraft, in collaboration with the Indian Air Force, will take place this September 2023.
The first C-295 aircraft, produced entirely under the “Make in India” initiative in partnership with Tata Company, is expected to be ready by September 2026. This aircraft will be entirely “Made in India.”
This groundbreaking agreement and manufacturing venture signifies a significant step in India’s aerospace and defense sector, underlining the nation’s growing prominence on the global stage. The collaboration between Airbus and GSU is expected to contribute to the growth of India’s aviation industry while providing valuable opportunities for the nation’s youth. The development of the C-295 aircraft in India further bolsters the “Make in India” initiative and strengthens the country’s position as a hub for aerospace manufacturing and innovation.
