Union Home Minister Amit Shah is scheduled to lead a meeting on Tuesday with the Disaster Management ministers from various states and Union Territories. The meeting, which will last for the entire day, will also be attended by Union Home Secretary Ajay Bhalla and high-ranking officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
The purpose of the meeting is to address the challenges faced by India in the realm of disaster management and focus on being prepared for the next phase of these challenges. This meeting aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s comprehensive approach to disaster management, which emphasizes relief, early warning systems, proactive measures, and preparedness.
The Home Minister has highlighted the shift in India’s approach to disaster management under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership. Previously, the country primarily focused on relief efforts, without adequately considering the preservation of lives and property. However, this approach has since changed.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has set targets for five-year intervals leading up to 2047, and it is actively working towards achieving them. Last year, the Home Minister also chaired a meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Home Affairs on “Disaster Management” in Gujarat’s Kevadiya.
The committee meeting was attended by Members of Parliament, including NK Premachandran, Kunwar Danish Ali, Professor (Dr.) Ram Shankar Katheria, Shri CM Ramesh, Rajendra Agarwal, Locket Chatterjee, Vijay Kumar Hansdak, Neeraj Shekhar, PP Choudhary, KC Ramamurthy, Naba (Hira) Kumar Sarania, K Ravindra Kumar, and K Gorantia Madhav.
