Reliance Industries and Reliance Foundation introduced Vantara, a groundbreaking animal welfare initiative, in the heart of Gujarat’s green belt. Dedicated to rescuing, treating, and rehabilitating animals in need, Vantara transforms vast expanses into lush jungles in collaboration with animal care experts. Anant Ambani, Director at Reliance Industries Limited, emphasized the mission’s focus on serving elephants and creating a haven for them akin to a ‘Sevalaya’ (service room), driven by his belief in the sacredness of elephants as the embodiment of Lord Ganesha.
The facility includes a specialized kitchen for crafting tailored diets, spanning over 14,000 square feet, and employs Ayurvedic techniques for elephant care, ensuring their holistic well-being. Anant Ambani cited his parents’ deep-rooted love for animals and Hindu teachings as inspirations for the initiative, underscoring the importance of universal compassion for all beings.
Spanning 650 acres within a 3000-acre premises, the center provides sanctuary for animals previously used in circuses or confined zoos, ensuring their recovery in state-of-the-art enclosures and shelters. Plans include opening a zoological park for educational purposes and establishing a cutting-edge hospital equipped with advanced technology for wildlife care, including prosthetic attachment for animals.
The initiative’s impact extends globally, having rescued over 200 elephants and numerous other animals, reptiles, and birds from perilous situations. Vantara actively participates in international rescue missions, adhering to legal and regulatory frameworks both domestically and internationally.
