Argentina President Alberto Angel Fernandez arrives in New Delhi to attend G20 Summit

Argentine President Alberto Angel Fernandez arrived in New Delhi on Friday to participate in the upcoming G20 Summit scheduled for September 9-10. At the Delhi airport, he was welcomed by Faggan Singh Kulaste, the Minister of State for Steel and Rural Development.

Following the 15th BRICS summit, the BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa) extended an invitation to Argentina and five other countries to join the alliance. Hugo Javier Gobbi, Argentina’s envoy to India, commended India for its instrumental role in expanding the BRICS group, emphasizing that Argentina’s inclusion wouldn’t have been possible without India’s support.

Furthermore, India-Argentina relations encompass various domains, including politics, economics, science, technology, Antarctic research, and cultural cooperation, according to the Ministry of External Affairs. Both countries have consistently backed each other on significant international matters, such as India’s candidacy for various UN and multilateral bodies. Argentina has particularly expressed gratitude for India’s support regarding issues like the sovereignty of the Malvinas Islands and recent sovereign debt servicing and holdout creditors.

India is all set to host the G20 Leader’s Summit in the national capital at the newly inaugurated Bharat Mandapam on September 9-10. This marks the first G20 Summit under India’s presidency and will be attended by numerous global leaders and delegates. Extensive preparations have been made for the summit, aiming to showcase India’s soft power and modern face.

The 18th G20 Summit will serve as the culmination of a year’s worth of G20 processes and meetings involving ministers, senior officials, and civil societies. Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated last December that India’s G20 priorities would be formulated through consultation with both G20 partners and fellow nations in the Global South, whose voices are often unheard.
