Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed his hope that all parties attending the upcoming Opposition meeting in Patna, Bihar, on June 23, ask the Congress party to clarify its stance on the Centre’s Ordinance. CM Kejriwal also said that he believes the ordinance will be the primary topic of discussion during the meeting.
He said, “I hope all parties in that meeting (Opposition meeting on 23rd June) ask Congress to clear its stand. I think the first agenda of that meeting will be Centre’s ordinance that ends democracy in Delhi. I will carry a copy of Constitution with me. I will explain to all parties that they should not think that Delhi is a UT so this has been brought just for it…”
The Opposition meeting will feature prominent leaders such as Rahul Gandhi and Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, NCP Chief Sharad Pawar, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray, Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav, Ex. President of Jammu & Kashmir National Conference Farooq Abdullah and Former Chief Minister of J&K Mehbooba Mufti.
Earlier this month, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had predicted that the Lok Sabha elections would be held earlier than scheduled, citing BJP’s unease over his efforts to unite the opposition.
During a recent statement, the Chief Minister of Bihar commented that although made in jest, it cannot be entirely dismissed. According to him, the current government may resort to early elections if the opposition unity bid gains significant traction.
