The recent developments surrounding the ‘Cash for Query’ scandal have sparked a political controversy, with several key figures and MPs becoming embroiled in the issue. Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw acknowledged the gravity of the matter in a letter to BJP MP Nishikant Dubey. He stated that the National Informatics Centre (NIC) would cooperate fully with the Committee on Ethics in its investigation, suggesting the involvement of the Lok Sabha Secretariat.
In response, TMC MP Mahua Moitra questioned the integrity of the allegations, highlighting discrepancies between the statements of the Union Minister and those of others involved. She also referenced another incident involving Nishikant Dubey’s alleged unauthorized entry into an airport ATC room, suggesting a need for impartial scrutiny of all individuals involved in the controversy.
Businessman Darshan Hiranandani, at the center of the scandal, expressed regret for using Mahua Moitra’s parliamentary login credentials, insisting that he was not coerced into signing his affidavit. He dismissed claims made by Mahua Moitra regarding the circumstances of the affidavit’s signing and suggested that her intentions were to target Gautam Adani and subsequently the Prime Minister.
The controversy was initially sparked by allegations made by BJP MP Nishikant Dubey, who claimed to possess evidence of ‘Cash for Query’ against Mahua Moitra, which was allegedly provided by Advocate Jai Anant Dehadrai. Both Dubey and Dehadrai have been summoned to provide oral evidence before the Parliament Ethics Committee on October 26.
