In a remarkable display of skill and precision, the Indian shooting trio comprising Manu Bhaker, Esha Singh, and Rhythm Sangwan added another feather to India’s cap at the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou, securing a Gold medal in the women’s 25m pistol team event on Wednesday.
India displayed unwavering composure, amassing a total of 1759 points, which proved sufficient to clinch the coveted gold medal. The competition was fierce, with China narrowly trailing behind, securing the silver medal with a commendable 1756 points. South Korea, displaying formidable marksmanship, secured the bronze medal with a total of 1742 points.
Leading the charge for the Indian team was Manu Bhaker, who delivered an outstanding performance in the rapid series. Manu Bhaker’s brilliance saw her secure the top position in the qualification standings for the women’s 25m pistol event, amassing an impressive score of 590. Esha Singh exhibited remarkable prowess to finish 5th with a score of 586, while Rhythm Sangwan secured the 7th position with a score of 583. Their cumulative score enabled India to outshine China by a narrow margin of 3 points, further cementing India’s dominance in the sport.
With this remarkable victory, India has now secured its seventh shooting medal at the Asian Games, marking the country’s fourth gold medal overall in the competition. Previously, the Indian contingent had achieved a world-record-breaking gold in the men’s 10-meter air rifle team event, courtesy of Divyansh Singh Panwar, Rudrankksh Patil, and Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar. Additionally, the women’s 10m air rifle team, consisting of Mehuli Ghosh, Ramita Jindal, and Ashi Chouksey, had clinched a silver medal.
Ramita Jindal also demonstrated her prowess by securing a bronze medal in the women’s 10m air rifle individual event, while Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar added to India’s tally with a bronze in the men’s 10m air rifle individual event. The men’s 25m rapid-fire pistol trio of Adarsh Singh, Vijayveer Sidhu, and Anish Bhanwala contributed to India’s success by securing a bronze medal.
India’s great performance at the Asian Games continues to impress, with the country now having secured a total of 16 medals, consisting of four gold, five silver, and seven bronze medals across various events. The shooting events at the Asian Games Hangzhou are scheduled to continue until October 1st, featuring a total of 33 medal events in rifle, pistol, and shotgun categories at the Fuyang Yinhu Sports Centre.
The Indian shooting contingent, comprising stars like Olympian Manu Bhaker and former world champion Rudrankksh, continues to shine brightly, showcasing their exceptional skills and determination at the prestigious sporting event.
