Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is scheduled to visit Manipur. He will is set to meet with his Manipur counterpart, N. Biren Singh, and other MLAs during his visit.

The visit comes amid a recent surge in violence in Manipur. The violence began in May 2023, following a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ in the hill districts. The march was organized to protest the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status. The violence has led to the deaths of at least 10 people and the displacement of thousands more.

The central government has deployed additional security forces to Manipur in an effort to restore peace. Sarma’s visit is seen as a further step by the central government to resolve the crisis in Manipur.
