Revenge can be scary. In an alarming event in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district, a man reportedly, chopped off his girlfriend’s hand upon learning that her family had arranged her marriage to another man.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when the accused, identified as Rinku, asked the 20-year-old victim to meet him at a secluded location in the village. According to police officials, an argument ensued between the supposed couple, leading Rinku to attack the young woman in a fit of rage with a farm trowel, resulting in the amputation of her left hand.
Following the assault, Rinku was apprehended by the authorities and charged under relevant legal statutes. Meanwhile, the victim received medical treatment and is reportedly in stable condition, as confirmed by Circle Officer Arvind Kumar to news agency PTI on Wednesday.
“Rinku was arrested a few hours after the incident. We have lodged an FIR regarding the matter and started an investigation,” CO Kumar said.
According to local media accounts, Rinku and the victim were romantically involved, but the girl’s family recently arranged her marriage to another man.
This development angered Rinku, who held his alleged lover responsible for not confronting her parents and supporting their relationship.
On Tuesday evening, Rinku summoned her to a remote location on the outskirts of the village, where they engaged in a heated argument over the matter. During the altercation, Rinku allegedly assaulted her with a farm trowel, resulting in the amputation of her left hand.
The victim was subsequently admitted to a nearby hospital for treatment. Police have apprehended the accused and filed an FIR against him under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), with further investigations ongoing.
