BJP Bags 8 Seats, SP Bags 2 in UP: Rajya Sabha Elections

In the recent Rajya Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party secured victories on eight seats, while the Samajwadi Party clinched two. Expressing confidence in the BJP’s performance, State BJP MLC Mohsin Raza remarked, “This is not just about eight seats, it reflects our readiness for all 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh.”

Among the successful BJP candidates were former Union Minister RPN Singh, former MP Chaudhary Tejveer Singh, Amarpal Maurya, Sangeeta Balwant, BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi, former MLA Sadhna Singh, Naveen Jain, and Sanjay Seth. The Samajwadi Party’s Jaya Bachchan and Ramji Lal Suman also emerged victorious, while their candidate Alok Ranjan faced defeat.

Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya hailed the BJP’s success, foreseeing a positive impact on the party’s prospects in the upcoming Lok Sabha and State Assembly elections. He dismissed allegations of influencing cross-voting, stating that the BJP does not coerce leaders to switch parties.

Meanwhile, Samajwadi Party Chief Akhilesh Yadav vowed disciplinary action against MLAs suspected of cross-voting, emphasizing the party’s stance against such actions.

The term for Rajya Sabha MPs is six years, with elections held every two years for one-third of the seats. With Lok Sabha elections looming, the outcome of the Rajya Sabha polls holds significance, particularly in politically crucial states like Uttar Pradesh.
