The state BJP chief, Sunil Jakhar, announced that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will contest independently in Punjab for the upcoming parliamentary election. Jakhar stated that there will be no alliance with the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in the border state.

This decision came after extensive consultations with various segments of Punjab’s population.
While SAD and BJP were part of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) at the national level, they contested together during the 2019 Lok Sabha elections in Punjab without achieving desired results.
The Congress won eight parliamentary seats in the state, countering the pro-Modi trend observed in northern and central India in 2019. The remaining five seats were won by the BJP, SAD, and the Aam Aadmi Party.
