BJP Delhi Chief Targets Kejriwal as MHA Orders CBI Probe into Drug Supply

In response to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) directing a CBI probe into the alleged procurement and supply of substandard drugs in government hospitals and mohalla clinics in Delhi, the BJP’s Delhi chief, Virendra Sachdeva, launched a strong criticism against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. Sachdeva expressed curiosity about how far Kejriwal can evade ongoing investigations and accused him of playing with public health.

Kejriwal, who has previously skipped three summonses by the Directorate of Enforcement (ED) in connection with the excise policy case, has accused the BJP-led Centre of engaging in political vendetta and using central agencies to harass opposition leaders.

Speaking to ANI, Sachdeva welcomed the MHA’s decision to initiate a CBI investigation into the supply of substandard drugs to government hospitals in Delhi. He stated that the probe would uncover the reasons behind the distribution of low-quality medicines, endangering patients’ health, and reveal any kickbacks to Kejriwal and his cabinet colleagues.

Sachdeva emphasized the seriousness of the alleged scam, referring to it as playing with public health and labeled it as shameful. He also asserted that they would observe how far Kejriwal can avoid the ongoing investigations.

Earlier on Friday, the MHA recommended a CBI probe into the procurement and supply of substandard drugs in hospitals run by the Delhi government and mohalla clinics. The MHA also directed the CBI to register an FIR into the supply of substandard drugs to government hospitals in the capital. The Delhi government’s Directorate of Vigilance had requested the Union Home Ministry to assign the investigation to the CBI.

AAP leader and Vigilance Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj wrote to the Health Secretary, acknowledging the issue of substandard drugs in public hospitals and primary health clinics. He urged immediate alternative arrangements to ensure the uninterrupted treatment of patients. The Lt Governor of Delhi, VK Saxena, had earlier recommended a CBI inquiry into the matter.
