Where on one side, West Bengal is in chaos over the Sandeshkhali row, the state BJP leader Sabyasachi Ghosh was arrested on Friday (Feb 23). The arrest has been made over Ghosh allegedly running a prostitution racket.
This criminal activity comes amid the politically chaotic weather in West Bengal’s Sandeshkhali where several women have come forth to accuse the ruling party in Bengal (TMC) of sexual exploitation. And this is the time when the opposition BJP is going hammer and tongs after the TMC.
The Trinamool Congress alleged that the Bengal police busted a prostitution racket that was running in BJP leader Sabyasachi Ghosh’s hotel in Howrah. The party led by Mamata Banerjee accused the BJP of shielding pimps rather than prioritizing the welfare of women.
In a statement posted on its official X handle, the TMC alleged that “@BJP4Bengal leader Sabyasachi Ghosh was apprehended for operating a PROSTITUTION RACKET involving MINOR GIRLS at his hotel in Howrah’s Sankrail. Police detained 11 suspects and rescued 6 victims from the location. THIS IS BJP. They do not safeguard DAUGHTERS, they safeguard PIMPS!”
“BJP IS WORKING OVERTIME TO MALIGN SMT. MAMATA BANERJEE’S IMAGE. THE SAME BJP’S HOWRAH KISAN MORCHA SECRETARY, SABYASACHI GHOSH, HAS BEEN ARRESTED FROM A HOTEL IN SANKRAIL FOR RUNNING A PROSTITUTION RACKET INVOLVING MINOR GIRLS.”

Numerous women in Sandeshkhali have made accusations of systematic sexual exploitation and illegal land acquisition against various leaders affiliated with the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC). They specifically implicated Sheikh Shahjahan, a member of the local Zila Parishad, as the primary perpetrator.
These allegations against TMC leaders surfaced following Sheikh Shahjahan’s disappearance. In January, an Enforcement Directorate team en route to Shahjahan’s residence in Sandeshkhali was assaulted, leading to his evasion since then.
Subsequently, police arrested two of Shahjahan’s close associates, Shibaprasad Hazra and Uttam Sardar, both of whom are also TMC leaders, after receiving complaints from women in the area.
