On Saturday, the Bharatiya Janata Party unveiled its inaugural lineup of 195 candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi slated to run for the Varanasi seat.
Included in this initial roster are 34 Union Ministers and two former Chief Ministers. BJP General Secretary Vinod Tawde, upon releasing the list, highlighted its diverse composition, comprising 28 women candidates, 47 youths, 27 from Scheduled Castes, 18 from Scheduled Tribes, and 57 from Other Backward Classes.
Among the notable contenders, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal is set to contest from Dibrugarh, while Kiren Rijiju will vie for the Arunachal Pradesh seat. Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of the late former External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, has been nominated to run in New Delhi.
Union Ministers Amit Shah, Rajiv Chandrashekhar, and Jyotiraditya Scindia are also prominent figures in the list, with Shah contesting from Gandhinagar, Chandrashekhar from Thiruvananthapuram, and Scindia from Guna, Madhya Pradesh.
