Mayawati, the leader of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), convened a special meeting on Sunday, bringing together senior leaders and district heads from Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand to assess the preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The meeting took place in Lucknow and was slated to commence at 11 am. During this gathering, significant directives pertaining to the readiness for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections were expected to be issued.
In the meeting, discussions revolved around devising a strategy to promote the party’s demand before the Central government. This demand was focused on enhancing the representation of Other Backward Classes (OBCs) and Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes (SC-STs) in the Women’s Reservation Bill.
A month earlier, Mayawati had emphasized that her party’s leaders were diligently working to fortify preparations for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, scheduled for the following year. Via her social media platform, she revealed that senior BSP leaders had been engaged in reinforcing the party’s organizational structure in Jharkhand. Moreover, they had deliberated on selecting candidates for 14 constituencies in the state.
In her Twitter post, Mayawati stated, “Continuing the series of state-wise meetings by the BSP regarding the preparations for the Lok Sabha elections, after UP and Uttarakhand, senior leaders discussed strengthening the party organisation in Jharkhand, increasing the mass base at all levels, and the selection of candidates for 14 seats in the state. An important meeting with office bearers has concluded.”
She underscored the importance of strengthening the party’s presence at all levels in the tribal-dominated state of Jharkhand. Mayawati stressed that marginalized communities, often neglected and marginalized by anti-Ambedkarite parties, should be empowered through the BSP’s initiatives.
Previously, Mayawati had urged her party’s leaders and supporters not to rely on alliances and to stand independently. She made this announcement after stating that the BSP would not enter into any alliances and intended to contest the elections on its own.
In reference to certain political groupings, she described them as “anti-poor, casteist, communal, and pro-capitalist.” Mayawati reaffirmed her party’s commitment to contest the upcoming general elections and state assembly elections unaided, just as it had done in 2007. She emphasized the importance of uniting millions of marginalized individuals based on mutual solidarity, rather than relying on political maneuvering.
She concluded by criticizing the policies of most parties within the NDA-India alliance, characterizing them as detrimental to the interests of the poor, casteist, communal, and aligned with capitalist interests. Despite the BSP’s prior involvement in alliances with such parties, she asserted the party’s decision to contest elections independently and urged the media to refrain from spreading fake news.
