Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will introduce the Finance Bill 2023 on Friday to give effect to the federal government’s financial recommendations. This comes only one day after Parliament approved the funding request. The Finance Bill 2023 gives effect to the federal government’s budgetary plans for the fiscal year 2023-24 that will be considered.
Earlier on Thursday, the Lok Sabha approved grant requests totaling over Rs 45 lakh crore for the fiscal year 2023-24. The motion was approved by voice vote despite opposition members’ complaints over their desire for a JPC investigation into the Adani problem.
As the Lok Sabha reconvened at 6 p.m. after two adjournments, Speaker Om Birla requested the Guillotine. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman moved the Bill to sanction payment and allocation of specified funds from and out of the Consolidated Fund of India for the services of the financial year 2023-24 for passage in the House amid the din. It was passed in the midst of the commotion, and the House was later adjourned for the day.
The two Houses of Parliament have been seeing adjournments over the recurrent logjam. While the BJP has demanded an apology from Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for his comments in the United Kingdom, the opposition has demanded a Joint Parliamentary Committee investigation into the Hindenburg-Adani controversy.
The budget session’s second half began on March 13 and will end on April 6. On February 1, the Finance Minister delivered the Union Budget.
