Canadian PM Justin Trudeau Criticizes India Once More Over Alleged Violations by Larger Nations

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has restated his claim that India violated the Vienna Convention following the relocation of over 40 Canadian diplomats amid an ongoing diplomatic dispute between the two nations. Responding to media inquiries, Trudeau expressed Canada’s desire to collaborate with India on the “serious matter” of the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian soil, emphasizing their commitment to the rule of law.

Trudeau voiced disappointment over India’s alleged violation of the Vienna Convention by revoking the diplomatic immunity of the Canadian diplomats. At a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Ontario, where he addressed the India-Canada diplomatic standoff, Trudeau stressed the importance of international cooperation in investigating the Nijjar case.

He highlighted that the United States supports Canada’s efforts in resolving the matter and called on India to cooperate. Trudeau underscored Canada’s commitment to upholding the rule of law, stating that unchecked violations by larger countries could pose a global threat. He emphasized Canada’s historical positive engagement with India and expressed reluctance to engage in the current diplomatic dispute.

Trudeau reiterated concerns about the killing of Nijjar and accused agents of the Indian government of potential involvement, a claim vehemently rejected by India as “absurd” and “motivated.” Despite Canada’s assertions, no public evidence supporting the allegation has been provided. The diplomatic tensions led to a temporary halt of visa services by India, which were later resumed for specific categories after a security review.
