CBI Opposes Bail Plea Of Manish Sisodia, Says More Arrests To Be Made

The Central bureau of investigation (CBI) on Monday opposed the bail plea of
New Delhi’s former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia in a court in
national capital stating that some more high-profile personalities might be
arrested.

CBI has stated that it is currently investigating the Delhi Excise policy case, expressing concern that the accused individual might interfere with the investigation process.

Senior advocate Mohit Mathur highlighted that the Supreme Court had noted a passage of 13 months and granted bail to Sisodia based on satisfying the triple test criteria. Mathur argued that Sisodia poses no flight risk, no risk of tampering with evidence, and there is minimal evidence left in the case, as most have turned approvers.

Addressing the irony of the situation, Mathur noted that another accused had been granted bail based on similar grounds. He also mentioned that the Supreme Court had granted bail with the understanding that the investigation would conclude within 6-8 months, as assured by the Additional Solicitor General (ASG).

Mathur emphasized that there has been no financial loss to the government or any private party due to the case, with no exchange of money involved.

On the opposing side, Additional Public Prosecutor Pankaj Gupta argued against granting bail, stating that the trial process is being delayed by the accused. Gupta expressed concerns about potential interference in the investigation by the accused, including the possibility of influencing witnesses.

In conclusion, Gupta requested the dismissal of the bail application based on these arguments.

Following the denial of his curative bail plea by the Supreme Court, Manish Sisodia is pushing for his bail application. This development comes after Special Judge MK Nagpal’s decision, which followed arguments presented by senior advocate Mohit Mathur on behalf of Manish Sisodia and CBI’s Additional Public Prosecutor Pankaj Gupta.
