The Central government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Appointments Committee of Cabinet (ACC), has recently upgraded the rank of Rahul Navin, the acting director of the Enforcement Directorate, along with 10 other bureaucrats, to the prestigious position of Additional Secretary.
This decision, approved on Monday, involves the in-situ upgradation of these officers to the Additional Secretary level as a personalized measure. The ACC, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, made the move by temporarily upgrading the positions held by these officials.
Rahul Navin, a 1993 batch IRS officer currently serving as the Special Director in the Enforcement Directorate, assumed the role of acting director after Sanjay Kumar Mishra’s departure in September last year, complying with the Supreme Court’s mandated tenure deadline.
At present, Navin continues to hold the position of acting director until the appointment of a regular director or until further orders from the government.
Apart from Navin, the government has also elevated Shubha Thakur, Sanjukta Mudgal, Anant Swarup, Navaljit Kapoor, Manoj Pandey, Anurag Bajpai, Alok Pande, Sunil Kumar, Hanif Qureshi, and Anandrao Vishnu Patil to the position of Additional Secretary in various departments. These include the Department of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ministry of Culture, Department of Commerce in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Department of Defence Production, Department of Investment and Public Asset Management in the Ministry of Finance, Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Heavy Industries, and Department of School Education and Literacy.
Additionally, the ACC has promoted seven other officers deputed to different ministries and departments to the role of Additional Secretary. Sanjeev Kumar Jindal has been appointed as Additional Secretary in the Department of Home in the Ministry of Home Affairs. Asit Gopal, Tripti Gurha, Samir Kumar Sinha, Bharat Harbanslal Khera, Chandra Bhushan Kumar, and Puja Singh Mandol have been promoted as Additional Secretaries in various departments, including the Ministry of Textiles, Ministry of Women and Child Development, Department of Defence, Department of Consumer Affairs in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation in Jal Jeevan Mission, and Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
