Central Security Cover Provided to 24 Chhattisgarh Leaders Including Son of Former CM Ajit Jogi

In anticipation of the impending elections scheduled to take place in Chhattisgarh in the coming month, sources have disclosed that the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has taken measures to provide interim central security cover to 24 prominent state leaders. Among the beneficiaries of this arrangement is Amit Jogi, the son of former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi. The MHA, reportedly, has directed the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) to extend ‘Z’ category security to Amit Jogi, while the remaining 23 leaders are slated to receive ‘X’ category security.

These security provisions are expected to remain in effect until the culmination of this year, December end, in accordance with the insights presented in the recent threat evaluation report submitted by the Intelligence Bureau (IB). According to sources, the decision to extend security cover to these leaders has been prompted by a fresh assessment of the security threats emanating from Naxal factions, particularly in light of the upcoming Assembly polls in the state.

In parallel, the Election Commission has announced the scheduling of the first phase of polling, encompassing 20 seats in Chhattisgarh, on November 7. The subsequent round of voting, involving the remaining 70 seats in the state, is set to take place on November 17. The formal enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct has followed the official declaration of these polling dates.

It is noteworthy that the elections in Chhattisgarh will be conducted over two phases, with the counting of votes scheduled for December 3. The timing of these state-level elections assumes considerable significance, as they are being held several months before the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April-May the following year. In the political landscape of Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan, the principal contenders vying for power are the Congress and the BJP.
