Sundar Pichai, the Chief Executive Officer of Google and Alphabet, expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a productive meeting discussing Google’s continuous dedication to India. In a post on X, Pichai conveyed his gratitude, stating, “I am grateful to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the productive meeting today, where we talked about Google’s unwavering commitment to India. We discussed our efforts in expanding operations, harnessing the potential of AI, and strengthening partnerships.”
On Monday, October 16, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually engaged with Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google and Alphabet. The discussion encompassed Google’s strategic involvement in bolstering the electronics manufacturing ecosystem in India. The Prime Minister commended Google’s collaboration with HP in manufacturing Chromebooks within the country.
Furthermore, Prime Minister Modi acknowledged Google’s initiative in supporting 100 languages and encouraged the implementation of AI tools in various Indian languages. He also urged Google to focus on developing AI tools that contribute to effective governance, as stated by the Prime Minister’s Office.
The Prime Minister warmly welcomed Google’s proposal to establish its global fintech operations center at the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT) in Gandhinagar. Pichai apprised the Prime Minister about Google’s initiatives aimed at enhancing financial inclusion in India through the use of GPay and UPI. He emphasized Google’s commitment to assisting India’s developmental journey, according to the press release.
The Prime Minister extended an invitation to Google to participate in the forthcoming Global Partnership on AI Summit, scheduled to be hosted by India in December 2023 in New Delhi, according to the additional information provided.
