The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has apprehended Yogesh Agarwal, the Superintendent of Central Goods and Service Tax (CGST) for the Rudrapur Division in Udham Singh Nagar district, Uttarakhand. Agarwal was arrested red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from the complainant.
The arrest follows a case registered by the CBI based on a complaint alleging that Agarwal demanded a bribe of Rs 15,000 for reactivating the suspended GSTIN of a firm owned by the complainant’s wife. Subsequently, the bribe amount was negotiated down to Rs 10,000.
In a carefully executed operation, the CBI laid a trap and caught the CGST Superintendent accepting the bribe. Searches were conducted at Agarwal’s premises in Rudrapur, Udham Singh Nagar district, Uttarakhand, and Ambala in Haryana. The investigation resulted in the recovery of documents, including those from two lockers, bank accounts, and other incriminating evidence.
Yogesh Agarwal’s arrest highlights the CBI’s commitment to combating corruption and ensuring accountability within government departments. Further investigation into the case is currently underway.
