Former Speaker of the Punjab Assembly, Charanjit Singh Atwal has joined Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the presence of party president JP Nadda, in New Delhi.
Atwal resigned from Akali Dal’s primary membership on April 19. He was born on March 15 1937 and served as the Deputy Speaker of India’s 14th Lok Sabha from 2004 until 2009.
Charanjit Singh Atwal was a Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) member who represented the Punjab constituency of Phillaur in the 14th Lok Sabha. He also acted as Speaker of the Punjab Assembly thrice.
On Sunday, Charanjit’s son Inder Iqbal Singh Atwal, and several others from Punjab joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in New Delhi.
