Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) surveillance and intelligence personnel apprehended three passengers at the check-in area of Terminal 3 in Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on Saturday evening.
According to CISF, the individuals identified as Basid, Mubashir Jamal, and Kayfee, all Indian nationals, were bound for Kabul via Sharjah on Air Arabia Airlines flight No. G9-466 (STD-1820 hrs). Suspicions arose during routine checks, leading the authorities to divert them to a random checking point for thorough examination of their baggage.
Upon screening their luggage through the X-BIS machine, CISF officers detected suspicious images, prompting a physical inspection. Subsequently, a significant quantity of various types of medicines valued at approximately INR 52 lakh was uncovered.
Upon inquiry, the passengers failed to provide supporting documents for carrying such a substantial amount of medication. Consequently, CISF officials notified senior officers and customs authorities of the matter.
The apprehended individuals, along with the seized medicines, were handed over to customs officials for further investigation and appropriate action.
Further details regarding the incident are pending.
