K’taka Polls: CM Bommai admits defeat, suggests big comeback in Lok Sabha elections

With Congress racing ahead in the Karnataka elections, the current Chief Minister of the BJP led government of the state, Basavaraj Bommai admitted his defeat and suggested that his party would make a strong come back in the Lok Sabha elections to be held in 2024.

At noon, the Congress party  was in lead with 124 seats, followed by BJP with 69 seats and JD(S) with 24 seats. After the results are released, a thorough examination will be conducted to determine the gaps that were left at various levels, according to CM Bommai.

“We’ve not been able to make the mark. Once the results come we will do a detailed analysis. As a national party, we will not only analyze but also see what deficiencies and gaps were left at various levels. We take this result in our stride,” CM Bommai said.

Our efforts fell short, will do a detailed analysis of the loss: CM Bommai

He continued by saying that despite their best efforts, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP workers fell short. “In spite of a lot of efforts put in by PM and BJP workers, we’ve not been able to make the mark. Once the full results come we’ll do a detailed analysis. We take this result in our stride to come back in Lok Sabha elections,” Bommai went on to say.

CM Bommai had previously expressed his confidence in a BJP triumph. Karnataka CM’s convoy also ended up getting stuck in Haveri as Congress supporters came on the road cheering for their party’s victory.

At the same time, CM Basavraj Bommai continues to maintain his lead with 53.15 percent votes at the Shiggaon constituency. At 8 am, the counting of votes began, with high levels of security being enforced throughout the state.

The exit polls indicated a hung assembly, with some predicting a majority return for Congress. While other exit polls also put the BJP in the lead.
