Congress Leader Condemns TMC: Warns of Threat to Lives After Attack on ED Team

Congress senior leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury criticized its ally in the INDIA bloc, the Trinamool Congress (TMC), after an Enforcement Directorate (ED) team was attacked in West Bengal. Chowdhury expressed concern over the lack of law and order in the state, stating that he wouldn’t be surprised if officials were harmed.

Following the attack on ED officials, TMC leader Kunal Ghosh labeled Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury as “an agent of the BJP.” Ghosh dismissed Chowdhury’s remarks as politically motivated.

The incident occurred when the ED attempted to raid the residence of block-level TMC leaders in connection with an alleged ration scam in Sandeshkhali village, North 24 Parganas. The TMC leader’s supporters protested during the raid, leading to an attack on the ED team, resulting in injuries to two officials.

Several BJP leaders condemned the incident and criticized the ruling TMC government. BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar advocated declaring an emergency in West Bengal, claiming that democracy was repeatedly failing in the state. West Bengal BJP Chief Sukanta Majumdar highlighted corruption charges against the TMC leaders targeted by the ED.

Reacting to the attack, BJP leader Anirban Ganguly termed it the “first” of its kind and accused the TMC leader Sheikh Shahjahan of threatening public peace. However, TMC MP Santanu Sen claimed that ED officials provoked locals, leading to a counter-reaction.

TMC leader Kunal Ghosh argued that the attack on ED officials was a result of provocation orchestrated by central agencies, alleging that they were working against TMC leaders at the behest of the BJP. Ghosh criticized the actions of central agencies in West Bengal, accusing them of harassment and spreading negative statements.
