Rajani Ashokrao Patil, a Congress Member of Parliament, had her suspension revoked on Monday by Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar. The move came after a motion was proposed and accepted in the House.
Earlier this year in February, Rajani Ashokrao Patil had been suspended from the House due to her involvement in videographing proceedings and violating established rules. Although initially suspended for the budget session of Parliament, her suspension was extended on the session’s final day.
Chairman Dhankhar had invoked Rule 266 along with Rule 256 to declare that the suspension order from February 10, 2023, concerning Rajani Ashokrao Patil would remain in effect beyond the current session until the House could consider the recommendations presented by the Privileges Committee.
Opposition parties have consistently sought the reversal of Rajani Ashokrao Patil’s suspension. The decision to lift the suspension was announced by Dhankhar after BJP MP Saroj Pandey raised the matter during the session.
The morning session of Rajya Sabha on Monday saw limited business due to opposition protests, leading to an adjournment until 2 pm. The opposition has been pressing for an extensive discussion on the Manipur violence issue and a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Members of the ruling party, on the other hand, aimed to address concerns about crimes against women in Rajasthan, a state governed by the Congress party.
