Congress Unveils 144 Names for MP Polls; Kamal Nath to Contest from Chhindwara

Congress party revealed its first list of candidates for the forthcoming Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections, featuring prominent figures such as former Chief Minister Kamal Nath, former Minister of Higher Education Jitu Patwari, Jaivardhan Singh, and Members of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly Vijayalakshmi Sadho and Lakshman Singh.

The state is set to hold elections on November 17, with the vote count scheduled for December 3. Notably, Jaivardhan Singh, son of former Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh, will run in the Raghogarh constituency.

This announcement follows a meeting of the party’s Central Election Committee at the AICC office in the national capital. It’s worth noting that the Kamal Nath government faced a collapse in March 2021 when 22 Congress MLAs resigned and joined the BJP under the leadership of Jyotiraditya Scindia.

In addition to Madhya Pradesh, the party has also declared candidates for 30 seats in Chhattisgarh and 55 in Telangana. Meanwhile, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has already announced candidates for 136 out of the 230 assembly constituencies in the state. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will seek re-election from his traditional Budhni seat.

The Congress is making a strong bid to regain power from the BJP in Madhya Pradesh, with prominent party leaders, Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, conducting multiple rallies in the state. The Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls are scheduled for November 17, with a single-phase election and vote counting on December 3.
