Congress Unveils Candidates for Rajya Sabha Elections in 3 States

Ahead of the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections scheduled for February 27, the Congress party has announced its candidates for Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, and Telangana. The grand old party revealed a diverse lineup of nominees, aiming to strengthen its representation in the upper house.

From Karnataka, All India Congress Committee (AICC) treasurer Ajay Maken will lead the charge, accompanied by Rajya Sabha MP Syed Naseer Hussain and GC Chandrashekhar. Meanwhile, Ashok Singh has been chosen as the candidate from Madhya Pradesh, and the party has put forward former MP Renuka Chowdhury and Anil Kumar Yadav for the elections in Telangana.

Today witnessed the filing of nominations by Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi for the Rajasthan seat, showcasing a united front with the presence of key party leaders such as Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, and state party president Govind Singh Dotasra.

The Congress party also released its first list of candidates for the Rajya Sabha Biennial elections, with Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge approving Sonia Gandhi’s candidature from Rajasthan and Dr. Akhilesh Prasad Singh from Bihar. Abhishek Manu Singhvi will represent the party in Himachal Pradesh, while Chandrakant Handore has been chosen for Maharashtra.

The Rajya Sabha elections, scheduled for 15 states, including Uttar Pradesh, on February 27, will witness voting from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with the nomination deadline set for February 15. The Election Commission has declared the results will be announced on the same day.

Notably, the biennial Rajya Sabha polls are being conducted for 56 seats, as the tenure of the incumbents is set to end in April. The Rajya Sabha currently comprises 245 members, with 233 representing states and Union territories, including Delhi, Puducherry, and Jammu and Kashmir, while 12 members are nominated by the President.

As the political landscape gears up for these crucial elections, the Congress party aims to secure its position in the upper house and contribute actively to legislative proceedings. The outcome on February 27 will undoubtedly shape the political dynamics in the Rajya Sabha for the years to come.
