Cotton Candy, Candy Floss BANNED In This State, Answered

After the ban of one of the favorite vegetarian snack – Gobi Manchurian in Goa, here comes up a fresh ban on the most loved ‘Cotton Candy’. This Rs 10 candy is known by different names such as, candy floss, fairy floss. It is a spun sugar confection that resembles cotton.

Following test reports uncovering the presence of cancer-causing chemicals, the Tamil Nadu government has enforced a prohibition on the sale of cotton candy. State Health Minister M Subramanian has additionally instructed food safety officers to undertake necessary measures and enforce stringent actions.

The Food Analysis Laboratory identified Rhodamine-B in cotton candy and several other colored sweets, deeming them unsafe and below standard for consumption.

Mr. Subramanian declared it a punishable offense, stating that any engagement in the production, sale, distribution, or packaging of products containing Rhodamine-B would lead to severe consequences.

The neighbouring Union territory of Puducherry has already implemented a ban on cotton candy. The latest ban is bound to impact the livelihood of several vendors and manufacturers across the state.
