Chetan Singh, a Railway Protection Force (RPF) constable, was ordered by a Mumbai court to spend the next 14 days in judicial custody after being accused of fatally shooting a senior colleague and three other passengers on a train in Maharashtra.
Singh was produced before a magistrate court in Suburban Borivali on Friday at the end of his previous remand. The court remanded him judicial custody as no further remand was sought by the Government Railway Police (GRP), which is probing the case.
In a related development, the court denied permission to the probe agency to perform brain mapping, polygraph and narco analysis tests on Singh. The GRP had sought content for the tests, saying the matter was very serious and a thorough investigation was needed.
On July 31, the event happened on board the Jaipur-Mumbai Central Express while it was travelling close to Palghar Railway Station in Maharashtra. Officials claim that Singh (34), his senior, RPF Assistant Sub-Inspector Tikaram Meena, and three other passengers on the train were all fatally shot.
After passengers pulled the chain of the train that came to a halt close to Mira Road station (on the Mumbai suburban network), he was subsequently apprehended while attempting to leave while carrying his weapon.
