Officials told on Friday that more than 10 flights had to be cancelled at Chennai Airport owing to unfavourable weather brought on by Cyclone Mandous.
13 flights in all, coming from and going to different places, were cancelled. In light of the flights impacted by the inclement weather, the officials advised the general public to check with the relevant airlines.
“Kindly take note of the Flight cancellations at Chennai Intl Airport on 09.12.2022 due to adverse weather conditions forecasted. Passengers are requested to check with concerned airline(s) for further updates. #Chennai #MandousCyclone #Mandous@AAI_Official@pibchennai,” tweeted the Chennai (MAA) Airport.
According to announcements made by officials on Friday, National Disaster Response Force team was maintained on readiness in Chennai as cyclone Mandous was expected to keep its status as a “Severe Cyclonic Storm” till the early hours today.
The administrators also stated that the crews have the necessary tools at their disposal to record any unwanted incidents.
According to Sub-Inspector NDRF Sandeep Kumar, “NDRF is prepared to handle the Mandous Cyclone crisis in Chennai. The NDRF team in Chennai’s Adayar Indra Nagar has been stationed there ready where they have packed rescue supplies to travel when a challenging situation occurs.”
The NDRF officers further stated that several pieces of equipment, such as boats, high voltage motors, suckers, cutter machines, etc., were kept on hand and prepared for rescue operations.
The Mandous Cyclone was expected to worsen and intensify, therefore precautions were made in response.
Officials said that three districts- Chengalpattu, Villupuram, and Kancheepuram in Tamil Nadu have already received a red warning.
