Defence Min Rajnath Singh: ‘Won’t Tolerate Disparagement’

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh visited Rajouri to assess security a week after the terror attack in Poonch that claimed the lives of four soldiers. Singh expressed solidarity with the injured soldiers, highlighting the government’s commitment to their well-being. He emphasized the significance of each soldier, likening them to family members.

The vital role of security and intelligence agencies, stating their increasing importance in the future. He assured full government cooperation and funding for future requirements. Regarding the recent Rajouri encounter, he urged heightened vigilance and underscored the unmatched sacrifice of soldiers, stating that no compensation can truly compensate for their service to the nation.

The Defence Minister lauded the Indian Army’s increased capabilities and urged soldiers to connect with the public, emphasizing the dual responsibility of protecting the country and winning the hearts of citizens. Singh emphasized the goal of not only defeating terrorists but also winning the hearts of the people.

Following the Poonch attack, the Indian Army plans to reinforce the Poonch-Rajouri sector against Pakistani terrorists. An additional brigade-size formation and other supporting units will be deployed to enhance the counter-terrorist grid. The local police are intensifying their intelligence efforts, while a Staff Court of Inquiry is investigating lapses in operations.

Sources suggest that Pakistan seeks to escalate tensions in Poonch-Rajouri to influence troop reduction on the northern border with China. Despite challenges, security forces have succeeded in reducing terrorist activities in the Kashmir valley.
