Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal meets West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and other Aam Aadmi Party leaders met West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee in Kolkata. The meet comes as a part of Kejriwal’s attempt to garner support from Opposition to fight against the Centre’s ordinance on control of services in Delhi.

After meeting with the AAP leaders, West Bengal CM and TMC leader Banerjee said that her party will oppose the ordinance brought by the Centre against the Delhi government and will urge opposition parties to come together.

The Delhi CM is fighting against the Centre’s ordinance to create a National Capital Civil Service Authority for transfer postings of officers in the Delhi government. The ordinance came after the Supreme Court handed over the control of services to Delhi to the elected government, excluding those related to police, public order and land. Following this, Kejriwal attacked the Centre and alleged them of planning to bring an ordinance to overturn the court’s verdict.

AAP leaders Atishi and Raghav Chadha also reached Kolkata to meet Banerjee.

Arvind Kejriwal and Bhagwant Mann are also expected to reach Mumbai by the evening and are likely to meet Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Uddhav Thackeray. Following this, they are set to meet NCP chief Sharad Pawar on Wednesday.

Prior to the meet, Arvind Kejriwal had tweeted, “From today I am leaving across the country. For the rights of the people of Delhi. SC passed the order after years and did justice to the people of Delhi, gave them their rights. The central government took away all those rights by bringing an ordinance.”

The tweet continued, “When this law will come in the Rajya Sabha, it should not be allowed to pass under any circumstances. Will meet presidents of all political parties and seek their support.”
