In a determined effort to combat the alarming levels of pollution in the national capital, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has unveiled a comprehensive fifteen-point plan set to be implemented during the upcoming winter season.
Speaking at a press conference, CM Kejriwal outlined the multifaceted approach to addressing Delhi’s pollution crisis. He emphasized, “We have identified thirteen high-pollution hotspots and have devised individual action plans for each of them, along with the establishment of a dedicated war room. Additionally, thirteen specialized teams have been mobilized to execute these plans effectively. Building on last year’s successful use of bio-decomposer to combat stubble burning across 4,400 acres, we are expanding its deployment to cover 5,000 acres this year.”
To curb dust pollution, a total of 591 teams have been assembled to monitor construction sites. Arvind Kejriwal explained, “Construction sites exceeding 500 square meters will be required to register on a web portal, and those surpassing 5,000 square meters must install anti-smog guns.”
Addressing vehicle-related pollution, the Chief Minister highlighted the deployment of 385 teams dedicated to monitoring older vehicles. In addition, 530 water sprinkling vehicles will be put into operation, complemented by 258 anti-smog guns on the city’s roads during the winter season.
To combat open-area garbage burning, CM Kejriwal emphasized, “A total of 611 teams will be tasked with monitoring and preventing such practices, and a green war room has been established to ensure continuous 24-hour surveillance. Complaints received through the Green Delhi App are actively being addressed, with approximately 70,000 complaints filed, of which 90 percent have been resolved.”
Furthermore, CM Kejriwal announced a ban on firecrackers within the city limits. The government plans to enhance greenery by planting one crore new saplings, with 52 lakh of them being initiated by the Delhi government.
Highlighting a proactive measure, Arvind Kejriwal revealed, “We have established an E-waste park in the Holambi Kalan area. We urge neighboring states to take concerted steps to combat pollution, including relocating industries to Piped Natural Gas (PNG). Additionally, the adoption of the Zig-zag technique in brick kilns will be promoted to mitigate pollution.”
CM Kejriwal concluded by underscoring the strict enforcement of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) in the city, demonstrating the government’s unwavering commitment to curbing pollution and safeguarding public health.
