Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court has handed down significant sentences to two individuals involved in a harrowing incident of attempted robbery and assault on obstetrician Dr. Meetu Bhushan. The incident, which occurred in 2018 in the upscale Bungalow Road area of Delhi, has now resulted in severe legal consequences for the perpetrators.
One of the assailants has been sentenced to seven years of imprisonment for injuring Dr. Bhushan with a pistol during the attempted robbery, while the other has received a five-year jail term. Additional Sessions Judge Ekta Gauba Mann presided over the case, emphasizing the severity of the offense and the impact it had on the victim.
The court’s ruling came after a thorough consideration of the events that transpired on that fateful night. According to the prosecution, Dr. Bhushan was taking a stroll with her maid and pet dog when two individuals on a bike approached them. The pillion rider demanded valuables from Dr. Bhushan, and upon resistance, resorted to violence, firing a shot in the air before assaulting her with the pistol.
Judge Mann underscored the gravity of such crimes, noting that they not only disturb the peace of society but also instill fear among residents, affecting their sense of safety even in familiar surroundings. In delivering the verdict, the judge emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice for the victim.
Both defendants were found guilty of attempted robbery and causing hurt, with one of them additionally charged with attempting to commit dacoity while armed with a deadly weapon. As part of their punishment, they were ordered to serve rigorous imprisonment and pay fines, with compensation awarded to the victim to address the physical, mental, and monetary losses she endured.
The court’s decision serves as a reminder of the legal consequences awaiting those who engage in acts of violence and intimidation. It also highlights the judiciary’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of individuals, particularly in cases where vulnerable members of society are targeted.
As Dr. Bhushan continues to recover from the traumatic incident, the verdict brings a sense of closure and justice, reaffirming faith in the legal system’s ability to hold perpetrators accountable for their actions.
