Members of the Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) protested over the violence that erupted in the Haryana district of Nuh in a number of different districts of Delhi.
Banners were raised by the demonstrators as they took to the streets close to Ghonda Chowk and the Nirman Vihar Metro Station in East Delhi. The Delhi police quickly responded to learn about the protests and made sure that there was a high level of security in the area.
There were protests outside of these two locations too, close to Subhash Chowk.
On July 3, as two groups clashed during a procession, tensions erupted in Haryana’s Nuh district. The surrounding districts of Gurugram, Palwal, and Faridabad saw increased security after the skirmishes.
Manohar Lal Khattar, the chief minister of Haryana, told reporters that 6 people—two police home guards and four civilians—have been detained in relation to the violence in Nuh.
So far, the violence has claimed the lives of six people: four civilians and two home guards. 116 persons have been detained in relation to the violence in total. On remand, they have been found guilty. The guilty will not get off lightly. Khattar declared, “We are dedicated to maintaining law and order and public safety”.
“The overall situation in the state is normal. I appeal to the public to maintain peace and brotherhood”, the Haryana chief minister said.
A total of 20 paramilitary force companies and 30 Haryana Police units have been deployed in the state to restore peace and order, he said.
On Tuesday, multiple districts in Haryana reported incidents of new violence. In addition, authorities report that violence occurred on Tuesday night in Gurugram’s Sohna Road and Badshahpur.
Due to the conflicts, mobile internet connections were temporarily halted in the area and Section 144 was enforced for 48 hours starting at Monday midnight in Nuh.
Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala, however, said the violence in Nuh could have been avoided if organizers of the yatra had given complete information about the procession to the district administration. He further added that strict actions will be taken against those found responsible.
Deputy commissioner, Gurugram, Nishant Yadav reported that the situation was totally under and markets are also open now.
