Delhi Police on high alert ahead of Muharram procession

The Delhi Police conducted a late-night patrolling in the Jama Masjid area of old Delhi on Thursday ahead of the Muharram procession. This was part of an institutionalised mechanism that the police conduct from time to time.

Special Commissioner of Police, Delhi, Deependra Pathak said that the patrolling was done to ensure the safety and security of the people during the Muharram procession. He added that the police force will be deployed everywhere and all arrangements have been made to ensure that the procession is carried out smoothly and law and order is maintained.

Pathak also said that the Delhi Police uses technology as a force multiplier to ensure security. He said that drones and CCTV cameras will be used to monitor the procession and keep an eye on any suspicious activity.

Muharram, the first month of the Islamic calendar, holds deep religious significance among Muslims. The procession is a way for Muslims to commemorate the martyrdom of Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad.

The Delhi Police said that they are committed to providing a safe and secure environment for all citizens during the Muharram procession.
