Delhi prepares for intense rain as IMD issues alerts for North India

Moderate to heavy rain persists in several parts of Delhi and its neighboring areas, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting high-intensity showers over the National Capital for the next two days. The IMD has issued a forecast of prolonged heavy rainfall for 2-3 days in Delhi, offering relief from the scorching heat.

On Saturday, heavy rainfall caused waterlogging in various parts of Delhi, including Pragati Maidan, Nehru Nagar, Panchsheel Marg, Kalkaji, and ITO, leading to traffic disruptions. The Safdarjung Observatory recorded 98.7 mm of rainfall till 2.30 pm on Saturday. In anticipation of continued rainfall, the IMD has issued a “yellow alert” for Sunday.

Not only Delhi but other northern states are also expected to experience heavy rainfall in the coming days. The IMD has issued an orange alert for Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh, urging residents to take necessary precautions. Additionally, Jammu, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and western Uttar Pradesh have been placed under a heavy rainfall alert from July 8 to 9.

The monsoon’s active phase is expected to impact several regions in North India, with the IMD advising people to stay prepared and exercise caution. The weather agency has also issued a yellow alert for certain districts in Kerala.

With the monsoon in full swing, the IMD’s warnings emphasize the need for residents in affected areas to remain vigilant and take appropriate measures to mitigate the effects of heavy rainfall.
