Delhi’s Air Quality Persists in ‘Very Poor’ Category with an AQI of 323

Delhi’s air quality remained at ‘very poor’ levels on Tuesday morning, registering an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 323, according to data from the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR-India).

The SAFAR reported specific AQI readings at various locations, including IIT Delhi at 321, the Airport (Terminal 3) area at 336, and Pusa at 337.

Additional data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) at 7:41 am revealed varying AQI levels across different areas of the city. Anand Vihar recorded an AQI of 374, Jahangirpuri at 399, Lodhi Road at 315, and New Moti Bagh at 370.

The Air Quality Index categorizes air quality on a scale from 0 to 500, with values up to 100 considered ‘good,’ 100 to 200 as ‘moderate,’ 200 to 300 as ‘poor,’ 300 to 400 as ‘very poor,’ and 400 to 500 or above as ‘severe.’

This index serves as a simplified tool for communicating complex air quality data, transforming information about various pollutants into a single numerical value, nomenclature, and color.

In a noteworthy development, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) lifted restrictions imposed under GRAP 4 due to an improvement in Delhi’s air quality. This decision allows the entry of trucks and buses, excluding BS-3 and BS-4 petrol and diesel vehicles, and also lifts the ban on ongoing construction activities.
