Devotees in Uttarakhand’s Haridwar embraced spiritual fervor as they participated in a ritualistic holy dip in the sacred Ganges River on the auspicious occasion of Kartik Purnima. A significant gathering congregated at the revered Har Ki Pauri in Haridwar to mark the event, immersing themselves in the sacred waters and presenting floral offerings and lamps to the river Ganga.
This religious observance extended nationwide, with devotees offering prayers at various temples and ghats to commemorate Kartik Purnima and Dev Deepawali. Kartik Purnima, occurring on Monday, November 27 this year, corresponds to the full moon day of the Hindu month of Kartika, occurring fifteen days after Diwali.
Recognized by various names such as Poornima, Poonam, Pournami, and Pournimasi, the day holds cultural significance in the Hindu calendar. The Vaishnava tradition designates Kartik month as Damodar month, honoring Lord Krishna by one of His names, Damodar. Kartik Purnima is also celebrated as Dev Deepawali, signifying the fifteenth lunar day of the Hindu month of Kartik.
This festival carries a connection with Prabodhini Ekadashi and serves as the conclusion of Chaturmas, a four-month period symbolizing Lord Vishnu’s presumed state of rest.
