EAM S Jaishankar Engages in Bilateral Talks at Munich Security Conference

During the Munich Security Conference (MSC), External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar participated in a series of bilateral meetings, discussing key global and regional issues with counterparts from various countries.

Jaishankar met with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, where they discussed global challenges and reviewed preparations for the upcoming India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations. Expressing his appreciation for Baerbock’s insights, Jaishankar highlighted the importance of cooperation between the two nations.

Additionally, the Indian minister held talks with Argentina’s Foreign Minister Diana Mondino, focusing on enhancing economic and political cooperation. Jaishankar expressed his anticipation for further collaboration between India and Argentina.

Furthermore, Jaishankar met with Greece’s Minister of National Defence Nikos Dendias to discuss major security challenges facing the world today, highlighting the importance of shared perspectives in addressing these issues.

The Munich Security Conference, chaired by German Ambassador to the US Christoph Heusgen, provided a platform for discussions on global security challenges. Jaishankar’s engagements included meetings with European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken, UK Foreign Secretary David Cameron, and Peru’s Foreign Minister Javier Gonzalez Olaechea.

Discussions with Borrell centered on the current global situation, with Jaishankar expressing eagerness to welcome him to India. Meanwhile, talks with Blinken focused on the situations in West Asia, Ukraine, and the Indo-Pacific, as well as the progress in bilateral ties between India and the US.

During his meeting with Cameron, Jaishankar discussed India-UK bilateral cooperation and exchanged views on global and regional issues, including a friendly exchange on an ongoing cricket match. Similarly, Jaishankar engaged with Peru’s Foreign Minister to discuss reforms in the United Nations and explore opportunities for economic cooperation between India and Peru.

The engagements underscored India’s commitment to fostering partnerships and addressing global challenges through dialogue and cooperation on multiple fronts.
