Tamil Nadu’s poll readiness for the upcoming general elections to the Lok Sabha was examined on Friday by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar and senior Election Commission of India officials. Political party officials from the state met with the Commission. District Collectors and Superintendents of Police were also present at the review meetings, according to the authorities. Earlier in the day, the meetings took place in a Chennai hotel.
According to DMK MP RS Bharathi, they brought up the VVPAT machine issue with the Commission. He went on to say that the party was prepared to fight the elections. “We have brought up the issue of the VVPat machine connected to the Control Unit in our memo that we submitted with our input to the Election Commission. Whether the parliamentary election is held in a single phase or multiple phases, the DMK is prepared to compete in it, according to MP RS Bharathi. The BJP, on the other hand, has called for the deployment of paramilitary forces in sensitive booths and the installation of CCTV cameras at every booth.
“As per our state leader, we have told our inputs to the Election Commission. All booths should be installed with CCTV Cameras. DMK have taken control and stopped the installation of CCTV in booths. The tender has been stopped. We have demanded paramilitary forces in sensitive booths,” BJP leader Karate Thiagarajan said.
“Star campaigners should be given permission. SPs, DIGs and IGs who favour DMK should be identified and given directions. Election must be done maintaining law and order,” he added.
CEC Rajiv Kumar, along with Election Commissioner Arun Goel and other key officials, arrived in Chennai to oversee the preparatory activities. Their visit was part of the Election Commission’s effort to ensuring the integrity and transparency of the electoral process.
The delegation had meetings with officials from several political parties that are well-known. Important topics covered in the talks included polling place layouts and the application of the election code of conduct.
