Election Commission Reschedules Mizoram Assembly Election Vote Counting to December 4

The Election Commission has officially announced the rescheduling of the Mizoram Assembly election vote counting to December 4, moving it from the initially planned date of December 3. The decision comes in response to multiple representations received from various quarters within the state requesting a change in the counting day.

In an official statement issued on Friday, the Election Commission stated, “The Commission has received several representations from various quarters requesting for a change in the date of counting from 3rd December 2023 (Sunday) to some other weekday, on the ground that 3rd December 2023 being Sunday has special significance for the people of Mizoram.”

Taking these representations into consideration, the Commission decided to revise the date of counting for the General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Mizoram to December 4, 2023 (Monday).

The Mizoram Assembly elections, held on November 7, witnessed a robust democratic process with the Mizo National Front (MNF) facing competition from the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), Congress, and BJP. The state recorded a noteworthy 80.66 percent voter turnout during the polling for the 40-member Mizoram assembly.

The rescheduled vote counting is expected to provide a conclusive outcome in the electoral battle that unfolded on November 7, determining the composition of the 40-member Mizoram assembly.
