After Explosion Kills 5, Bengal LoP Suvendu Adhikari Criticizes Mamata For Shielding Criminals

Criticizing the Mamata Banerjee administration following a fatal explosion at an illicit firework production facility in the North 24 Parganas district which claimed five lives, Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, accused the Chief Minister of prioritizing the protection of corrupt individuals within her Cabinet and engaging with Muslim religious leaders instead of taking action against such factories.

Rescue teams at the accident site confirmed the recovery of five bodies from the ruins of the unauthorized factory in Duttapukur, North 24 Parganas. Concerns remain regarding additional casualties or individuals potentially trapped beneath the debris.

Expressing strong dissatisfaction with the TMC government, Suvendu Adhikari emphasized that this incident wasn’t an isolated case and warned of a potentially explosive situation across the entire state. Adhikari stated that the Chief Minister had initially promised to shut down illegal firecracker manufacturing units, yet she seemed more preoccupied with shielding corrupt officials and participating in discussions with Muslim preachers.

Before Suvendu Adhikari, the West Bengal president of the BJP Sukanta Majumdar also criticized the state administration, alleging that individuals suspected to be associated with Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) were not only present within West Bengal but were also utilizing it as a base for activities contrary to the national interest.

Speaking to Media, Majumdar further criticized the Mamata Banerjee government, asserting that the state was fostering an environment conducive to those who favored Pakistan. This was exemplified by the apprehension of a 36-year-old individual suspected of espionage for Pakistan, with significant sensitive documents reportedly seized from the suspect. Majumdar claimed that the Chief Minister and her administration were indirectly aiding ISI agents based in Pakistan.

At present, the ruling Trinamool Congress has not issued an immediate response to these allegations.
