Numerous commuters, including tourists and residents, are delayed in Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, after falling debris on Saturday caused the Yamunotri National Highway to get blocked in various spots near Gangnani, according to officials.
Images from the scene show cars caught in rubble, keeping commuters detained for hours. The highway was stopped in many locations, including Chhatanga, according to the Uttarkashi government, which also stated that a Tehsildar was dispatched to assess the situation.
Uttarkashi district disaster management officials said that due to heavy rains near Gangnani in the Barkot area, there has been a lot of debris and stones on the Yamunotri National Highway. “The fresh spell of rains led to water-logging in Kasturba Gandhi residential school. The school children had to be shifted to safer places,” they stated.
They continued by saying that teams from the State Disaster Response Force team and the fire brigade were dispatched right away to the area to provide assistance. Similar to how the Badrinath National Highway close to Chamoli district was obstructed in three locations by falling debris as the area continued to experience heavy rain.
“The roadway is blocked due to debris at Nandprayag, Belakuchi, and Pagalnala on the Badrinath National Highway,” Chamoli police tweeted on Saturday morning. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 24-hour rain forecast for Uttarakhand that includes heavy to very heavy rain, thunderstorms, and lightning in isolated locations across Dehradun, Uttarkashi, Tehri, Pauri, and Nainital.
The status of the relief and rescue efforts in Damkothi in the Haridwar district were evaluated by Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami on Friday in relation to the area’s waterlogging.
