Farmers’ Protest: Talks Continue as AAP, Congress Express Hopes for Resolution

As the agitation by farmers enters its sixth day at the Shambhu border near Ambala, anticipation mounts for the fourth round of talks between protesting farmers and the central government. Ahead of the discussions, political leaders have voiced their expectations for a constructive resolution to the ongoing impasse.

AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal expressed optimism, stating his hope for both parties to emerge with a unified solution. Similarly, Former Haryana Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupinder Singh Hooda emphasized the importance of addressing concerns regarding the Minimum Support Price (MSP), underscoring the need for the government to make decisive decisions in this regard.

Leaders of the Punjab Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee revealed that the government had requested additional time for deliberations with union ministers. Sarvan Singh Pandher, the committee’s general secretary, stated that talks were ongoing and expressed hope for a positive outcome.

The non-political Samyukta Kisan Morcha and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha have been leading the “Delhi Chalo” movement, urging the BJP-led Centre to address their demands. Despite facing obstacles from security personnel at border points between Punjab and Haryana, the farmers have persisted in their march towards the national capital.

The ongoing standoff underscores the deep-seated concerns of farmers regarding agricultural reforms and the MSP. With talks remaining inconclusive thus far, all eyes are on the fourth round of discussions as both sides seek common ground to resolve the deadlock.
