Jammu and Kashmir Police have announced the arrest of four individuals allegedly involved in a human trafficking operation in Budgam district. The arrested individuals were identified as Bashir Ahmad Mochi and Gh Hassan Najar, residents of Arath Budgam, along with Parvaiz Ahmad Ganiee from Yall Pattan and Mohd Ramzan Ganiee from Hanjibugh Magam.
According to the official statement, the arrests came after an investigation revealed their involvement in the trafficking racket. The investigation was initiated after a non-local woman was found wandering in the Arath area of District Budgam on February 14, seeking assistance. The woman was subsequently rescued by a police team and handed over to the ‘Sakhi One stop centre Budgam’.
Upon interrogation, the woman disclosed that she had been deceitfully brought to Kashmir by Zaitoon Bibi, a resident of Kolkata, West Bengal, and Bashir Ahmed Mochi. Furthermore, she revealed that she was sold to Parvaiz Ahmad Ganiee for one lakh and thirty-five thousand rupees and forced into marriage with him.
In response to this revelation, Budgam police have registered a case under relevant sections of the law and have launched a thorough investigation into the matter. The arrests highlight the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat human trafficking and ensure the safety and security of individuals vulnerable to such crimes.
