K Kavitha, a Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLC, emphasized on Thursday that the existence of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) alliance today does not guarantee its continuity in the future. This statement follows BRS chief and Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s earlier assertion on August 2 that his party is not aligning with either the INDIA alliance or the NDA.
K Kavitha, while speaking to ANI, remarked, “There is no guarantee if today’s INDIA Alliance will exist tomorrow. There will be state elections and seat-sharing issues for the Parliament election before that. The situation would be different after that.” She also noted that the political landscape might change after the results of the Parliament elections are revealed.
Highlighting historical trends, Kavitha pointed out that pre-poll alliances in India have not always been highly successful. She underlined that BRS, as a national party with a comprehensive agenda, differs from regional parties like the Congress, which adapt their agendas based on specific states.
Kavitha did not hold back in her criticism of the BJP, asserting that the party has not made significant contributions to Telangana over the past decade. She predicted that the BJP would encounter negative results in Telangana, similar to its performance in Karnataka. In the southern states, she explained, voters tend to favor parties that prioritize regional issues.
Earlier in August, opposition parties convened as part of the INDIA alliance and decided to collectively contest the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections. They announced their intention to finalize seat-sharing arrangements through negotiations.
The INDIA alliance comprises various opposition parties, including the Congress, united with the goal of challenging the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections to prevent a third consecutive term for the NDA at the Centre.
The alliance held its third meeting in Maharashtra on August 31-September 1, forming several committees to facilitate its efforts. The first two meetings took place in Patna and Bengaluru in June and July, respectively.
